As a missionary it can be a difficult thing to balance time and energy with budget. Most often we are trying to do as much as humanly possible with as little as possible, and the same has been true with my travels. Though this type of planning is justifiable at times, my latest trip has taught me a valuable lesson.
We spent as little as we possibly could on the travel side of our latest outreach to Shillong, but it came at a high price. The cost was related to time and energy. At a much higher monetary cost the trip would have only taken 3-5 hours, and that would have saved valuable time and energy. However, because we saved money on traveling, the trip took us closer to the neighborhood of 24 hours one way; an amazingly long amount of time for such a relatively short distance. It was an extremely grueling experience by road and railway, and it was utterly draining. Well worth it too!
Needless to say, I am looking forward to more airplanes and helicopters and less roads and trains. The results will be more time and greater energy, which are both very important trade-offs.
