From time to time, I may share some content from our weekly “Jesus Group” (Yeshu Junda in Nepali – sounds cooler) meetings; these are weekly small group fellowships held at my house that focus exclusively on Jesus. The idea is that there are lots of people who are interested in Jesus but not religion. In other words, they would love to talk about Jesus from a non-religion stand point, and these folks would be much more comfortable at someone’s house rather than in a church.

Well, this week we took a look at Jesus’ first miracle. You know the one, He turned the water into wine – very cool by the way…

Anyhow, my bro-in-law Rupak made a great point. He pointed out how comfortable and happy Jesus was at parties, and in this case a wedding party, but on the other hand how angry He was in the temple. Think about it: Jesus happy at the party, but angry in the temple…big time ouch if you’re the religious guy at the temple, but awesome if you’re the ordinary fella at the party. Kind of makes you think…

For sure I think our churches need to be more like the party than the religious temples of Jesus’ day; full of the broken and humble and not the self-righteous and prideful. What do you think?

  1. Wendy Nelson says:

Jesus certainly did most of his sermons out of doors! Inside a temple or a church you are inside something man-made…but when you are outside you are in God’s cathedral….where the whole Party of Life is happening.
