1 Timothy 6:4a AMP
“He is puffed up with pride and stupefied with conceit…”
Here’s one of the many reasons I appreciate the Amplified Bible, the use of words like stupefied! It just tells it like it is.
Conceit is to think too highly of ones abilities or self, it’s self centered and makes an idol of the one who is conceited. Conceit stupefies an individual, making him or her unable to think or feel properly. It dulls there mind and senses, and just makes the person, well…stupid.
Where conceit stupefies, humility amplifies! Conceit dulls and humility sharpens. Living and thinking with an attitude of humility will keep your mind and senses acute with the directives of the Holy Ghost. It keeps your focus outward rather than inward.
So, if you want to live free from the stupid’s, steer clear of conceitedness and embrace a heart of humility. Don’t be blinded by self, but rather clothe yourself with humility…then you’ll see yourself the way God sees you, and be able to live accordingly.
