You will always see whatever it is that you’re looking for.

Jesus saw faith.

Matthew 9:2

“And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.”

The pharisees saw sin,

Matthew 9:11

And when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto his disciples, Why eateth your Master with publicans and sinners?

It’s a matter of focus. If we go around looking for something negative, if we’re busy finding faults, then we’re going to see people through that lens. The lens of the pharisee.

If, however, we are looking for the good, and trying to find in others something worthy of praise, then that’s exactly what we will find. Like Jesus, we will see faith, if that’s what we’re looking for.

Jesus didn’t wear a lens of judgement over his perspective, but rather a lens of grace. This is what enabled him to look at a sinner and see his faith. He was more interested in the good on the inside of that individual than his or her shortcoming. If we’ll learn to see how Jesus saw, we can make an impact like He made, an impact that touches the deepest parts of the heart the likes of which can never be erased.

What do you see? In both examples above, what was seen lead to what was said. It’s not enough just to see the good, you need to follow it up with words. What you see is what you say.

What do you see in your spouse? In your kids? In your coworkers? In your neighbor? See the good, and follow it up with words from your heart. That’s one way to leave a lasting impact on your world.
