Genesis 15:1
“After these things the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward.”
God is in to rewards, and His greatest reward is Himself. There is nothing more “worth it” than simply having Him, and remembering that keeps everything else in perspective.
This is the idea Paul had when he said, “Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.” (Philippians 3:8).
We win Him, the ultimate reward!
The little rewards along the way are nothing compared to the Exceeding Great Reward of God Himself, and letting the little rewards distract us or steal our devotion is something we all have to watch out for. Keeping our eyes fixed on the prize is a choice we each have to make.
Your reward for being faithful is Him. Your reward for walking in love is Him. Your reward for offering yourself to His service is, again, Him. He is your exceeding great reward!
Everything else you could possible want or need is wrapped up in Him. Your whole life is hid in Him! (Colossians 3:3). When you possess His presence, you are blessed beyond comprehension, and it keeps on getting better and better. We get to enjoy this ultimate reward for all of eternity. We’re not talking about some temporal blessing…this is forever!
Take some time to thank God today for all that He is, and remember there’s nothing greater than simply knowing Him!
Wonderfully written! Thank you for sharing… Great indeed the very gift we should never forget.
Amen! Thanks Heather.
