Jesus Style... - Soul-Purpose!

I think Jesus was very different than many preachers of today, and honestly the difference between Jesus and someone else isn’t my concern. It’s the difference between Jesus and myself that I really need to pay attention to.

Mark 6:45-46

“And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people. And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray.”

This small snapshot into the life and ministry of Jesus offers some astounding observations:

  1. He sent His disciples on ahead of him. Not the other way around. Now-a-days, a preacher would be more inclined to head out and let the helpers stay behind and finish things up. Not Jesus.
  2. He sent away the people. Again, it wasn’t Jesus getting out of the meeting as quickly as possible so He could go and relax. No, He stuck around. He stayed with the people. He sent them away; Himself.
  3. He went to pray. He didn’t run to the nearest restaurant or television set to watch the big game, no, He went and spent some valuable time in fellowship and prayer with His Father.

I want my life and ministry to reflect the heart of the One I serve. His style must become my style. And for every other preacher out there, it’s essential that we follow His lead and truly learn of Him. It might not be the easiest way, or the most comfortable. It will certainly cost us some time and energy, and the flesh won’t enjoy it at all. But, doing things His way is the only right way, no matter what!

So, what’s the difference between Jesus’ style and your style, and how can you adjust yourself to better reflect His heart. Reflection is sometimes the first step toward improvement.
