One of the greatest necessities of the Christian life is to develop and maintain a tender heart toward God. This is, more than anything else, the defining element in each of our lives. The condition of our hearts is quite literally everything!
It’s a subject that takes a lifetime to master, and the honest person never arrives, but continues the journey over the course of their entire life. Why it’s so important is because of how the condition of our hearts sets the stage for our entire relationship with God.
So how is it done? How do we keep our hearts tender and free from hardness? Well, as I’m sure you know, there’s a long list of what to do and not to do, and in this post we’re going to look at just one point…
Mark 6:52
“For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.”
The evidence of a hardened heart in this instance was related to what the disciples were conscious of and what they were considering. So, the lesson we derive is that the condition of our hearts is related to what we remember and consider during times of trial and testing. The disciples did not consider the miracles of Jesus. When they were faced with need, their focus defaulted to a carnal perspective, and that was evidence that their hearts were hardened.
One of the many ways we keep our hearts right toward God is to remain conscious of His mighty power toward each of us! Don’t forget what He has done for you. Don’t forget the past victories and stories of success, which all point to the awesome power of God. Keep your heart centered around the goodness of God, His mercy and His grace. Remember Him! That’s how you keep your heart from being hardened!
