It’s really easy to focus on what we can’t do, and to let that dictate what we finally do-do. If my doing is based on my inability, then the final product will be sadly lacking because my full potential will not be realized.
If I’m faced with a new and challenging project; say taking the reigns and leading a regional church planting movement for example (this is hitting pretty close to home for me), rather than allowing what I can’t do to limit my actions I must zero in on the things that I can do. Who can I make contact with? Who can I train? How can I raise funds for the project? Etc.
If you are caught in the middle of a storm and all hell has broke loose, what can you do about it?
If you are facing the criticism of others, what can you do to rise above it?
In every situation we face, there are things that we can do and there are things that we can’t do. I just have to remember to allow my ability to surpass my inability.
This all reminds me of a young man I met in an elevator in Bangkok, his name was Cando. It also reminds me of one of my sons’ current favorite phases, “We can do it!”
