The 21 day fast is modeled after a man of God named Daniel who is a key figure in the Old Testament scriptures. He is also a type and shadow of the Apostle John found in the New Testament. John was Jesus’s closest disciple, and both Daniel(5) and John(6) are called God’s beloved. Both men of God also received detailed prophetic revelation relating to the end-times.
Listen to what God told Daniel after his time of prayer and fasting was complete,
Daniel 10:12
“Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that you did set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come for your words.”
Daniel was seeking God for understanding. He humbled himself and fasted in order to “set his heart to understand” and God answered with powerful revelations. Seeking understanding is an exemplary purpose for prayer and fasting. Through humility you position yourself to receive from God, and you are able to hear His voice more clearly.
There may be some key areas in your life that you need greater understanding in. Identifying them specifically can help you to receive specific direction from the Lord. Take some time to identify areas in your life that you are seeking understanding in, and bring them before your Father.
