When you turn off the natural you turn on the spiritual. During a time of fasting you effectively channel your hunger toward the things of the Spirit by denying your natural man. This ultimately increases your spiritual hunger, and that is a wonderful benefit to fasting.
When we feed on natural things, filling our lives up with what is natural, our hunger will naturally be natural. Spiritual hunger, then, is a result of feeding on the things of the Spirit. That hunger is satisfied by the word and presence of God, and so the more you give yourself to God’s word and presence, the hungrier you will become.
Our lives become out of balance when we attempt to live for God while at the same time looking to the world for fulfillment. We cannot be full of God and full of the world at the same time, we must decide where our loyalties lie(15). This is proven by the things we give ourselves to. Your decision to fast and pray, and to seek God is evidence that your desire for Him is greater than your desire for other things, and as you continue a lifestyle of seeking God, you’ll find yourself walking in a fulness of the Spirit.
Regarding hunger, Jesus said this:
Matthew 5:6
“Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.”
This is exactly what we should be hungering for; righteousness, which is God’s way of doing and being right. We are to hunger for Him and for His ways, not man’s way or the world’s way, but God’s. And when we do, we will be filled.
Fulness and blessing in your life is a direct result of what you are hungry for. Your hunger will determine the things your seek and pursue, and that becomes you. Continue to allow God, by His Spirit, to direct you into a life of fulness by laying aside natural things in pursuit of Him.
