I read something of the condition of Joseph’s soul when he was falsely accused and put in prison. In Psalms 105 verse 18 it says, “His feet they hurt with fetters; he was laid in chains of iron and his soul entered into the iron.” (Amplified)

Notice the description of his physical pain as well as the emotional. Imagine how he must have felt. The Bible describes Joseph’s soul as entering into the iron. Sometimes things can get so rough, and circumstances become so dire that our soul begins to fully identify with the situation. I know that I have been there, and I’m sure you have too. There are many things that come our way, which carry such powerful influence, that if we’re not careful our souls may begin to unite us with the problem.

For example, an individual may be facing severe physical symptoms of sickness or disease, or perhaps that person suffers with chronic pain. The influence that is afflicting the body will eventually begin to influence the soul, and for many people the influence is so great that they begin to adapt their lives or even accept the symptom. You could say that their soul enters into the pain.

The same progression can be applied with most everything that comes our way. For this reason, our souls must be renewed and our spirits must be strengthened. Only a renewed mind and a strong spirit can withstand the pressure to accept, adapt or unite with circumstances.

If you have found your soul entering into whatever is happening to you, be encouraged, Joseph experienced the same thing and he overcame. You too will overcome!
