Maintaining the longing in our hearts for the intimate presence of God is the ultimate goal, for that desire alone will cause our lives to find our highest meaning and truest purpose. Hunger for God and desire for Him are what propel our lives forward in His plan and purpose. Maintaining and heightening our hunger and desire is what this fast has been all about
The key, then, to continuing with God is found in not allowing ourselves to get away from Him in the first place. We must learn to return to Him in a constant manner.
Joel 2:12
“Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God…”
It’s this continual turning that keeps our lives on the right track, and fasting helps turn us. To turn to Him is to seek His face, which involves turning away from worldly cares and distractions. People get away from God when those “things” become more attractive than He is, and that only happens when we forget His beauty and majesty.
By actively engaging the fasted lifestyle, which might include periodic fasts; perhaps once a week, or whatever else the Lord puts on your heart to do, will help you remember Him. Regardless of your method of choice, fasting regularly will help you to remain mindful of what this life is really all about. It’s all about being close to Jesus and being used for His glory.
Begin to think of a plan of action for how you can “keep it up”, and in so doing you’ll “keep on keeping on”. Turning to Him, seeking His face, fulfilling your purpose.
