It’s the leaders job to say go! I’ve often had this question of just how much to initiate and how much to leave to the initiation of others. However, I’ve found that initiative is a huge part of leadership and if we wait for others to “get it†before we say go, we might wait forever!
Moses learned this lesson in Exodus 14:15 when God said to Him, “Why do you cry to Me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward!†In many ways they weren’t getting it (and some of them never did), but the leader still had to lead, and the go forward command had to come from him.
Moses couldn’t wait around for the people he was called to lead to hear from God for themselves, they needed to hear from him – their leader. Leaders, this is huge. You have to initiate forward progress in your people. Let them learn along the way, but don’t wait and waste precious time before you give the charge to Go Forward!
