I’m understanding better than ever why God likens idolatry to adultery. He wants to be the “only” God in our lives, and refuses to share us with any other.

We’ve been ministering to a family over here in Sikkim who needs Jesus. The father of the home is in desperate need of healing in his body, and the family has been inviting us to minister to them. They’ve tried everything.

While I was recently ministering to this family in their home, I began to notice the idols and images of false religion in their living room. Because they’ve opened their hearts to Christ, I began calling them to forsake these other false gods. I explained to them that the God they’re trusting in for healing does not want to compete with these other gods, and that they need to get them out of His way. As long as false gods are allowed, the blessing of God – including healing will be hindered.

Allowing false gods in our lives and yet expecting blessing from the true God is like me telling my wife I love her while another woman sits on my lap. It just doesn’t work.

When I stepped into another room at the family’s home that I’ve mentioned, I saw what the Holy Spirit knew was there all along; the epicenter of spiritual filth in this home. There I saw an altar to many gods, complete with offerings that had been presented. We’re waiting for the day when this family will destroy that altar and forsake all for Jesus. Agree with us for their complete salvation.
