Matthew 22:12

“He saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.”

He was speechless because there was no excuse. Everyone else had taken the time to dress themselves according to the groom, all to match him on that auspicious day. The groom is Jesus Christ, and the Father expects each of His ‘guests’, which describes every born-again believer, to dress and fashion themselves after His Son.

To not wear a wedding garment is to neglect the necessity of conforming to the image of Christ. All that is required has been bought and paid for by the blood of the Lamb, and all we must do is put on His righteousness, which causes us to be clothed appropriately.

As the return of Jesus, our Bride-groom King, draws near it is essential that each of us prepare ourselves for that great and terrible day (Joel 2:11). It’s great for the redeemed clothed in the righteousness of Jesus, but terrible for all others.

Revelation 19:7

“Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.”

What each of us must determine is this: are we making ourselves ready, or on that day will we too be found speechless?
