Striking a balance between passive pursuit and aggressive pursuit requires some fine tuning. It’s the difference between praying and waiting versus praying and working. Praying is central, but what you do from there demands close watch.

Ultimately we need to do a combination of all these things: praying, waiting and working. Waiting describes our position of expectancy as we receive work orders while working is the actual implementation of what the Lord is leading us to do. One does not work without the other.

So, should I be passive or aggressive in my pursuit? I believe our answer lies somewhere in the middle. Passivity, though it’s safer, places us somewhere behind where God wants us to be, and being behind can cost us in the long run. Souls can be lost, time can be lost, and opportunities can be lost. Aggressiveness, on the other hand, can get us out ahead of where God wants us, and that can be dangerous.

We must remain in stride with the will of God, right in the middle of God’s plan and purpose. Walking in that place is the perfect will of God and with prayerfulness, patience and diligence we can.

Is there a word for passive aggressiveness?
