How do you measure prosperity?

Is it measured by the car you drive or the home you live in? Is it measured by the amount of money spent on fast food, entertainment or recreation?

How do you measure prosperity?

In America, an estimated $43.2 billion was spent on pets in 2008. Is that prosperity?

I believe prosperity is measured more by what we give than what we gather. If our consumption outweighs our distribution, the balance is a witness against us.

Here’s a healthy exercise: total your expenses (the extra’s not the essentials) and compare them to your giving. Which is greater? Consumption or distribution?

Giving

  • Tithe
  • Offering
  • Missions
  • Orphan Support
  • Etc.
Spending

  • Fast food
  • Video Games
  • Coffee
  • Movies
  • Etc.

True prosperity is seen through giving not getting. If the body of Christ would emphasize giving above spending, we would unleash generosity on a massive scale. Funds would be released for world evangelism and the great commission would be fulfilled!

Prosperity is God’s idea. It’s His will for His people. Now it’s up to us. Will we receive God’s prosperity and allow Him to pour blessing through our lives, or are we going to stop that prosperity flow though self consumption?

Be encouraged friend, do your part…be a giver not a spender.
