It seems obvious but the things we rely on should be reliable, don’t you think? I mean take our mobile phone service provider for example; the company’s name is Reliance, a name that should go hand in hand with reliability, a company you’d think we could rely on. Sadly, no. Reliance isn’t very reliable…but we still depend on them.

Depending on an unreliable source can be a very costly mistake. It could cost you your time and your money, it could even cost you your life. We continue to rely on Reliance mostly for convenience sake. It would take time and cost us extra money to switch network providers, not to mention the hassle of changing our phone number. So, we make the most of it. If the phone doesn’t work, we just take a break from the phone…not a real big deal. Or, if we travel where there’s no network, which in northeast India includes several places, we just deal with it. My cell phone isn’t a dire part of my life, so I can get away with it sometimes being unreliable.

However, some things are dire and relying on anything less than 100% is a gamble with deadly stakes! Take this instance for example:

2 Chronicles 16:12

“In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet–until his disease became very severe; yet in his disease he did not seek the Lord, but relied on the physicians.”

The contrast is simple: physicians vs. the Lord. Physicians, unreliable. The Lord, 100% reliable. It should be an easy conclusion, but it seems people are ever inclined toward plan B. (Side note: if you feel the need for a physician, you can still visit one, just make sure you are relying on the healing power of God!)

In the end though we’ll find, only complete dependence on the Lord who is 100% reliable will ensure stability in our lives. His is a love that never fails! A hope that never fades! A peace that always triumphs!

Relying on Jesus will never disappoint!
