“…his taste remained in him, and his scent has not changed.” Jeremiah 48:11

If there is one absolute for a child of God, it is this: Change. The verse above hits two major areas of necessary change by mentioning taste and scent.

Taste: The more I walk with God, the more I find my taste is changing. I simply have lost a taste for some things, and I find my spiritual taste buds longing for other things. It’s not just because I’m not 15 anymore, or because I have grown up, why there are plenty of people my age who still like to smoke weed, get drunk and live in sin. No, my taste has changed and is changing because of my relationship with God. The more we walk with Him, and the closer we get, the more defined our taste will become.

Scent: If I hang out with cows, I’m gonna smell like a cow; profound I know. Well, the same is true spiritually. If I’m hanging out with the garbage this world has to offer, it’s going to rub off on me, and I will not smell so good. If, however, I’m soaking up the presence of God, my spiritual scent will be pleasant.

I will smell like whatever I hang around, and I will have a taste for whatever I feed on. Those two elements of my life should be changing and will become more Christ-like as I pursue Him. The poured out life that I live will be shaped by the change God carries out in me.

Is your taste changing? How do you smell?
