The Bible is full of cool, though provoking questions; things that make you go hmmm. I enjoy answering the questions that I find in God’s word for myself. Questions like:
- Who do you say I am? Matthew 16:14
- What do you seek? John 1:38
- What do you desire? Matthew 20:21, 32
And, how about this question: To what world do you belong? (John 19:9). This question is a little different from those I mentioned above, because Jesus wasn’t doing the asking; instead He was being asked. (You’ll find the particular translation that I used in the Amplified version of the Bible; otherwise you get something less amplified).
Pilate asked Jesus that question on the day He was to be crucified. Jesus was about to take off, maybe that’s part of the reason He didn’t say anything, and besides that, Jesus had already made it very clear that He was not of this world. Just check out what He said to Pilate in John 18:36.
To what world do you belong? Just the other day I was out and about, and a dear man that seemed like he had way too much to drink way too early, thinking I was a tourist, asked me where I was from. I couldn’t resist, I told Him I was from heaven, and that God was my Father. He said, “Impossible!”. I laughed, and kept walking, as he yelled a bunch of stuff off in the background. Glory to Jesus! I’m so glad I know which world I belong to; the real world.
