Romans 1:21
“Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”
It is possible to know God but not glorify Him as God, and thankfulness is what tips the balance. Being thankful is right in the middle of the One we know and Him being glorified through our lives. Thankfulness is the test. Its presence or lack thereof determines whether or not we glorify the One we claim to know.
What am I saying by being unthankful? If I know God, I’m saying I know Him but I choose not to glorify Him as God. Failing the thankful test then indicates that I don’t really know Him the way I should. Because if I did, I would glorify Him as God in my life.
Thankfulness glorifies God in your situation. No matter how bad it seems or looks, you can still be thankful. And that thankfulness is evidence that you trust God and believe that He is in control of your life. Thankfulness puts God in the drivers seat, and regardless of how things seem, thankfulness allows Him to continue navigating your life.
It doesn’t mean you should thank God for everything, but you certainly should thank Him in everything and above everything! ( 1 Th. 5:18)
