My dear friend Pastor Kevin Cooley, asked a great question on a recent blog post of his. You can read his post here.
This was his question:
“What do you think Loyalty is & how do you express it???”
I began answering and my answer just kept going, so I decided to make a post of my own out of it…
Here are my thoughts about being loyal to “the call”
When God “calls” us alongside someone…be it a leader or someone we’re leading…being loyal means that our commitment to that person is constant. By constant I mean that even when the person we’re called alongside seems like too much work, or trouble, or whatever, we stick with them…that to me exhibits true loyalty. By doing so, you’re not just being loyal to a person but to the call of God…so I guess the real crux of the matter is in knowing that it is His call.
Here it is in algebraic form: Loyalty = Constance + Commitment + Call
I think this poses a new question…in what circumstances do we have the right to withdraw loyalty?
Good stuff; great question too.
I’m out of station but will meditate on that one.
peace
