God is not in a hurry and we shouldn’t be either. It’s far better to wait on him, allowing Him to have His way, rather than running out ahead on our own. It takes faith to wait on God. To sit back, relax and trust that He is going to work things out on our behalf(36). But that’s exactly the reality He hopes we’ll accept.
Waiting on God is one of the smartest things we can learn to do.
Isaiah 40:31
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
More than ever, during a time of fasting, we become aware of the weakness and frailty of the natural man. This is a time for waiting on Him. To sit at His feet, to listen to His word(37), and to have our strength renewed.
The Hebrew word, halap, translated “renew” in the scripture above carries with it the idea of “changing” strength. That’s what happens when you wait upon the Lord. You change strength.
When our strength is “changed” and we receive the Lord’s strength, that’s when we begin to mount up. We’re able to run, and keep on pressing on, without growing weary or fainting.
The Lord has new strength for you. He has fresh energy to impart to your spirit, and it’s during these times of waiting upon Him that we can receive it. Take extra time to just wait upon the Lord today. Don’t be in a hurry, don’t do all the talking. Be still and know that He is God(38). Allow His to strength to become yours.
