2 Timothy 1:5b AMP
“…[a faith] that first lived permanently in [the heart of] your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am [fully] persuaded, [dwells] in you also.”
Thank God for godly women! Timothy had a history of faith in his family, and two generations of women are mentioned. The same faith was developed in Timothy who followed their godly examples.
My question is, where’s the men? Where’s dad and grandpa, and why aren’t they mentioned? It could be, as so often is the case, that the men in Timothy’s family were less spiritually inclined. The woman sought God, while the men ‘made a living‘. This absence of men of faith is a common theme throughout the Kingdom of God, certainly so here in India.
I’m not sure what it is. But through observation I think this much is clear, the roles we fulfill are often mixed up. Or, it’s our priorities that are out of whack. For men, it’s easy to put so many things in front of our role as ‘Man of God’ and our priority toward ‘The Faith’ finds a spot in the middle or end of the list.
We all have many roles to fulfill and many priorities to accomplish, but may I suggest: our role in Christ and priorities in His Kingdom should be above all others. That’s right – God first! It doesn’t mean we neglect our family or job, it just means God is numero uno in our lives, and all else flows out of our devotion to Him.
For all the men out there – Be A Man of Faith! A Man of God! Do that, and all else will be accomplished. Your family needs your example of godliness.
