Council is important, but the kind of council it is, is even more important. Don’t make the same mistake that King Rehoboam made in 2 Chronicles chapter 10. Instead of listening to the older and wiser, he gave his ear to the younger and less experienced. In an effort to gain the approval and acceptance of his peers, Rehoboam followed the detrimental advice of “his friendsâ€.
Knowing who to ask, and who to listen to, can be the difference between success and failure. Having wise, experienced voices in our lives will help keep us on track and take us where God wants us to be. That is why pastors and leaders are so vital for every believer. There are no lone rangers. There are no know-it-alls.
Who has your ear? Do you have seasoned and wise leaders that you can look to and listen to? Or, are you more comfortable with the voice of reason, so often offered by the well intentioned but terribly ill equipped. Choose wisely who you give your ear to. Your future depends on it.
