1 Corinthians 16:2 AMP
“On the first [day] of each week, let each one of you [personally] put aside something and save it up as he has prospered [in proportion to what he is given], so that no collections will need to be taken after I come.”
The true measure of any man can be found by where he puts his money. And in a day and age of enormous consumption, it has become very easy to put money anywhere but where it belongs most. The Bible encourages generosity on a massive scale and makes it the personal responsibility of every believer in Christ. Being generous starts with a plan for being generous.
The simple plan taken from the above verse includes three steps:
- Choose a day to put something aside (Sunday in this example)…
- Save it up for a given amount of time…
- Give it when the opportunity arises…
The purpose of such a savings account is for the sake of funding the gospel worldwide, it is expressly a missions fund. This is completely separate from supporting the local church you attend, though the church can certainly be used as a storehouse for the fund. The church could then use the collected amount for missions.
