Separating what I want from what God wants is an important part of my walk with Him. Consider the following…

What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.”

James 4:15

What does the Lord want? That is such an important consideration. Really the most important.

How then do I know if something is what the Lord wants? There are many things to consider, and here are a few:

  • Does it agree with the Word of God?
  • Does it bear witness with wise council?
  • Does it lead to peace?

James continues along these lines with a stern warning.

Otherwise you are boasting about your own plans, and all such boasting is evil.

James 4:16

I must evaluate the origin of my intention. Is it rooted in the plan of God or a plan of my own? I can sort through the details in prayer, and the Holy Spirit will help me take the step He wants me to take. He is faithful!
